Eaton's Relationship with Design

Eaton's had designers working in branding, UX and Industrial Design for decades. Recently, we've started building something new - a global, human-centered design group with User Research, User Experience, Industrial Design, and Design Thinking Strategy. Our design practice starts with an enterprise-level Center of Excellence and supports embedded designers in divisions all over the world.

We're constantly working to grow our design capabilities, add more embedded designers, and evolve.

Design Thinking

We teach Design Thinking through a set of principles, processes, and methods that empower all employees to be more human-centered, collaborative, and creative. We inspire and equip Eaton employees with training, coaching, and resources, and we cultivate connections across our global community of Design Thinking practitioners. Our vision is that all teams across Eaton identify the right problems to solve and deliver meaningful experiences for people.

Industrial Design

We focus on our Users' needs and, in parallel, offer creative solutions that consider Sales and Marketing's focus on the customer and Engineering's focus on technical requirements. Our ID teams at Eaton work to create a consistent visual brand language with products that have the highest impact. Our goal, like any design group, is to create recognition of the Eaton brand and elevate our aesthetic, pushing our industrial appearance to the next level. In short, we create thoughtful and premium solutions for every person using an Eaton product.

UX Writing

We don't just create documentation; we set the standard for it. Documentation doesn't have to be boring. By adding elements of Human Centered Design and updating styles and formats, we're looking to deliver something easy to understand that will provide genuine value. We're working to create a unified voice and tone that's just as recognizable as our design.

User Experience

We ensure people are kept at the core of design using empathy and research-driven methodology to simplify complex problems for users while supporting business goals. We believe that "Good Enough" isn't. We achieve the pursuit of quality through consistent communication, collaboration, and continual iteration. At Eaton, UX is a "Have to Have," not just a "Nice to Have."

Design Culture at Eaton

Eaton is a large company, but our design groups work like small teams of entrepreneurs, a place where you can cut your groove but have support when needed. We have all the benefits, stability, and connections of an established company and the freedom and flexibility of a startup.
